Softening and soothing
Irish moss (Chondrus crispus) is bushy, red seaweed found on the Atlantic coast of Europe, which grows between the tide lines to roughly 6 inches tall. It has a softening, soothing feel on the skin and hair and a very gentle cleansing effect.
This type of seaweed can be found down to a depth of 15 feet, and is harvested from spring to autumn. The plant is dried, ground to a powder and then added to boiling water which creates a fine jelly to be used in skin and haircare products. This ingredient acts as an emulsifier, binding materials such as water and oil together, and is packed with vitamins and minerals to benefit the skin. The gel is naturally rich in protein, which strengthens the hair and can help the skin maintain elasticity.
