Exotic, earthy aroma
Patchouli is a bushy herb, belonging to the mint family. Though native to tropical parts of Asia, it is now cultivated elsewhere including Indonesia, China and the Philippines.
Description
Patchouli is widely used in perfumery today as it has a distinctive, somewhat earthy aroma. It's also used in aromatherapy for its relaxation and antiviral properties. We use patchouli oil for its relaxing, uplifting effect on the mind.
The patchouli plant can grow up to about three feet tall and has long stems with purple or white flowers. The harvested crop is then dried, and the oil is extracted from the dried grass via a process of steam distillation.
