Cleansing and binding
Water is the basis of life. It is used a lot in cosmetics as a solvent that helps to mix and bind ingredients together.
Water is a substance composed of hydrogen and oxygen and it can change from liquid to solid or gaseous states, resulting in one of the most versatile and essential elements on the planet.
In small quantities water is colourless but in higher concentration, it takes on a variety of blue shades due to its light absorption. It can be divided into ‘soft’ and ‘hard’ water depending on the different amount of minerals it picks up as it flows. Unlike soft water, hard water has a higher amount of dissolved minerals, mainly calcium and magnesium.
Because of its prominence, water has long played an essential role in human history and evolution. In the 6th century BCE, Thales of Milethus set the basis for Greek philosophy by regarding water as the sole fundamental of matter.
Lush uses water in both solid and liquid products. Water allows compounds to mix and get to know each other a little bit better, giving formulas the chance to become gorgeous, hand-made blends of fresh ingredients.
